Stay at home Sunday

01_SAHSThe cooler weather and having our own place to hang out in meant we had a solid Stay At Home Sunday with reading and cooking extravaganza for Emma and some Javascript weekly for Cam. Very restive and nice to watch storms blow by through the window.

Bird city

24_heronI haven’t been so good at taking photos in the past few weeks – except for one of this massive heron that I spotted not far from the Albert Cuyptmarkt. Seen many a fluttering of starlings and sea gulls about as well, watched mostly from the window of our apartment.

Spectacular non hens hens

16_teppanyaki

Cam and I headed back to London for a weekend – he to go to the Vans Warped Tour with the guys, and me to go to Sarah’s ‘non hens hens’. Was such an excellent weekend with Teppanyaki entertainment at Benihana where Sarah got her cooking on, then from there we moved to the club ‘Tonteria’ in Sloane Square…

Dinner party #1

12_dinner-partyWasn’t on the ball with the photos this night, but had a delightful dinner party at our place with Kimily, Ben, Andrea and Claire. Sampled many delicious cheeses and learnt about dutch desserts such as Tom pouce (kind of like custard sqaures) and Vla (instant pudding crossed with custard) – yes!

Ij Hallen

10_Ij-hallen_chandersWent to the largest flea market in the Netherlands ‘Ij Hallen’ with Laura and Franc and also Kimily and Ben, who were in town. They saw us bike past the cafe they were at – bright green jacket success!

Atmos

08_yeeeahTrying to capture the warm and homely atmosphere that we enjoyed with andrea at ‘de wetering’ a bar just 2 mins bike from our house! Friendly folks, hearty fires, all so close and easy!

Familiar faces

07_hiGreat times catching up with Felix in the first week here, we enjoyed some time at our apartment window (good people watching) and then the beers and eats on offer at Biertuin above.

Museum lange nacht

02_museeum

A few more farewell London drinks later, and I was back in Amsterdam – just in time for the ‘Museum lange nacht’ where you can go to 50 museums on the one night! We started off at the Eye museum, which had this machine where two people were connected and the clarity of their face projection was based on how focused the other was. Then it was time for felafel at the Portugeues Synagogue and traditional treats at the Museum van Loon.

Feasting into the 30’s

28_bdayThis was sweety treat 3 of 5 in what was the day of the cakes to celebrate my 30th! These mango meringue pies at Ottolenghi were the bestest with the meringue so soft and succulent. Delightful times with Latham, Nerina and Kate – then off to Bonnington Cafe for hearty catch ups and dinn dinns!
